MIT Crew Completes Florida Training Trip

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - On Wednesday, January 11, MIT Crew departed Cocoa Beach, Fla. after an intensive, ten-day training trip.  All four MIT Crew squads: open and lightweight women and heavyweight and lightweight men, met in Florida just after the New Year to row on the Banana River and Sykes Creek, gaining considerable improvements in technique and fitness.  Practicing twice daily on the water, all four MIT Crew squads logged valuable miles with an eye on successful spring racing.

MIT is among many crew squads that travel to warmer climates in the winter in order to row on the water for team improvement, a more productive ground for refining rowing technique than indoor ergometer training.   Because the spring racing season begins at the end of March, the Florida training trip is an imperative part of spring racing success when getting back on the water in New England is uncertain, and dependent on the weather.

MIT Crew's spring racing season begins with the Openweight women competing in the Beanpot Regatta on Saturday, March 24 at home on the Charles River Basin.
