WORCESTER, Mass. - The MIT men's heavyweight crew team had four entries at the 2013 Eastern Sprints Regatta on Lake Quinsigamond on Sunday morning. Finishing highest for the Engineers was the third varsity four boat that finished in third place in its heat.
First up for MIT was the second varsity eight that finished sixth in the second of three heats with a time of 6:51.575, finishing 16th overall in the event. Harvard, Princeton and Brown took the first three spots, all completing the course within three seconds of each other. The Engineers edged Rutgers' eight boat by over eight seconds.
The third varsity four boat fared well, stopping the clock in 7:28.283, earning them a third place finish. George Washington was second with a time of 7:15.503 and Penn took the title with a 7:00.503.
To end the regatta, the first varsity eight boat finished sixth in the second heat with a time of 6:55.652. Brown took first this time with a 6:03.361 and was followed soon after by Princeton in 6:05.776 and Harvard with a 6:13.823. The Cardinal and Gray came 18th overall in their event.
MIT will end its season at the IRA Regatta on Lake Natoma in Sacramento, Calif., which will take place from Friday through Sunday, May 31-June 2.
