Heavyweight Crew Dominates New Hampshire Championships
Oct. 13, 2007
PEMBROKE, N.H. - MIT's varsity heavyweight crew crushed the competition at the 2007 New Hampshire Championships, a three-mile head race held on the Merrimack River in Pembroke, New Hampshire. The Engineers breezed past the field with dominating victories in both the eight and the four.
In the men's open eight event, the Engineers outlasted the competition by an eternity in crew-racing terms. MIT's varsity eight crossed the finish line in 13:18, 52 seconds ahead of second-place University of Massachusetts.
MIT's top four looked even stronger against the field, finishing more than one minute ahead of Bowdoin College, which was in turn trailed by the University of Vermont and UMass.
Said head coach Tony Kilbridge, "This race was a good confidence builder for us, heading into next weekend's Head of the Charles, where we will face much more serious competition."
