Skip Dise '03 Captures Silver at World Championships

Poznan, POLAND - In strong tailwind conditions, Skip Dise ‘03 was the first across the line as the U.S. Lightweight Men’s Eight captured the Silver Medal at the World Championships held in Poznan, Poland last weekend. Dise was the bow seat of the U.S. entry which posted the fastest time in the heats and continued building momentum into the Saturday Finals.

In the championship race, Italy jumped out to an early lead at a blistering 1:20.99 in the first quarter. By the halfway point, the U.S. found itself in a very close fourth position, less than one second behind the Netherlands and Japan. But in the second half of the race, the Americans broke free of Japan and established a firm lead on the Netherlands to take home the Silver Medal.

This was the first World Championship event for Dise but hopefully not his last. “I feel very fortunate to have been able to race at the World Championships and represent both my country and MIT. The amount of MIT alumni support has been tremendous and I want to thank everyone,” said Dise.

He now returns to Cambridge to train for the 2010 World Championships in New Zealand and resume his position as a research scientist at a start-up company in Belmont, Mass.
