HANOVER, N.H. – It was back on the road for the MIT crew teams this weekend as both the lightweight and heavyweight squads entered novice crews at the Dartmouth Green Monster on the Connecticut River in Hanover.
Rowing in a mixture of lightweight and heavyweight crews of varying experience, it was a solid showing for the novice MIT crews. MIT's heavyweight A boat turned in the best showing of the day for the Engineers, finishing 15th in the field of 24 with a time of 16:50.5 to finish ahead of crews from UMass, Harvard and Boston College. The heavyweight B boat was 24th with a time of 20:18.
MIT's lightweights were led by the A boat that placed 20th overall with a time of 17:51.7. The Engineers' B crew was just behind in 22nd with an effort of 18:16.6.
"We were definitely pleased with how they handled their first collegiate racing experience," said Jeff Forrester, MIT's Richard J. Resch '61 Freshman Lightweight Coach. "We look forward to a lot more learning and development in the coming months."
Both teams will close out their fall seasons on November 19 when they return to the Charles River for the Foot of the Charles competition.
