CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – It was a battle of nationally ranked lightweight crews for the Geiger Cup on the waters of the Charles River on Saturday, with No. 4 Cornell, No. 7 Columbia and No. 11 MIT vying for the trophy. In the end it was the Big Red crew that came away with the prize, with MIT finishing 3rd.

In the Varsity 8 race Cornell finished the 2,000-meter course in 6:11.4, holding off challenges from the Columbia crew that crossed the line 7.2 seconds behind. MIT could not keep pace with the other two boats and finished third in 6:41.4.
