Hwang and Young Represent United States at 2013 World Rowing Champs
CHUNGJU, South Korea – Former MIT crew members Michael Hwang '13 and Steve Young '09 recently represented the United States in the World Championships that took place in South Korea on Tangeum Lake from August 25 – September 1. Hwang was part of the men's lightweight team and Young was on the men's heavyweight team during their time at MIT.
Hwang was the cox of the U.S.A. lightweight men's 8 boat that earned a bronze medal with its time of 6:10.20. Italy came in first place with a 6:02.27 and Australia completed the race with a time of 6:06.51.
In a four-boat field of the men's heavyweight pair + cox, the United States finished in fourth with its time of 7:16.17, with Young sitting in the cox position. Italy, once again, completed the event in first place in 7:09.15 and was followed by Germany with a 7:12.34 and France with a time of 7:13.50.
Both boats qualified for the Championships at the Senior World Championships Trials in Princeton, N.J. from August 4 – 13.
