HANOVER, N.H. - The freshmen lightweight Engineers traveled to Hanover on Saturday to race in the Green Monster Invitational Regatta. The MIT squad was comprised of two even eights. The lineups had practiced in tact all week so both boats enjoyed some cohesion and good camaraderie. There was also a healthy bit of intra-squad rivalry as they had been competing in practices all week on the Charles.
It was a crisp, sunny day on the Connecticut River. A following current and tail wind made for favorable racing conditions. Both boats rowed aggressive pieces that reflected their progress to date. The MIT lightweight 'A' boat earned Pierce Boathouse bragging rights, coming across the line in a time of 15:16 good for a 13th place finish in a field of 25; the MIT lightweight 'B' boat clocked a 15:52, for a 16th place finish.
The lightweights look forward to November 22nd when they conclude the fall season on their home course with the Foot of the Charles.
