Joseph Rafidi Ranks 16th at Junior World Fencing ChampionshipCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore Joseph Rafidi (Los Angeles, Calif.) closed out a year of international fencing competition with a 16th place finish at the Junior World Championship held in Moscow in this week. In a field of 150 epeeists, he had the second-highest placement for the U.S. national team as Dylan Nollner (Duke University) ranked 10th.
Men's Fencing Concludes Season at NCAA RegionalCHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – With nine fencers in tow, MIT had a solid showing at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship held Sunday at Boston College. Sophomore Joseph Rafidi (Los Angeles, Calif.) recorded the best outing for the Engineers has he placed 20th in the epee competition. Senior Daniel Levine (Succasunna, N.J.) captured 21st place in foil action while sophomore Ehsan Izadmehr (Wayne, N.J.) led the sabre squad with a ranking of 24th.

Men’s Fencing Places Third at New England ChampionshipPOUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – With a record of 62-24, the MIT men’s fencing team finished third of 11 teams at the New England Championship hosted by Vassar College on Saturday. Sophomore Ehsan Izadmehr (Wayne, N.J.) registered the best individual outing for the Engineers as he placed fifth overall in the sabre competition. He compiled a 7-3 ledger in the A pool and went 4-1 in semifinal action before posting a 2-3 mark in the final round.
Engineers Face Local Foes at Fencing BeanpotBOSTON, Mass. – The MIT men’s fencing team fell to Boston College (18-9), Brandeis University (17-10), and host Harvard University (21-6) at the annual Beanpot Invitational on Tuesday night. The epee team had the best showing with a 13-14 record, followed by the sabre squad (7-20), and the foil contingent (6-21).

Following the weekend’s competition, MIT’s ledger improved to 7-7 on the year and 7-3 in conference play.
Tech Battles at Brandeis InvitationalWALTHAM, Mass. – Facing its toughest lineup of the young season, the MIT men’s fencing team fell to Yale (15-12), St. John’s (18-9), UNC (14-13), and Brown (14-13) at the Brandeis University Invitational on Sunday. The Engineers concluded the fall semester with a ledger of 3-6 and will return to action on January 28 for another round of Northeast Fencing Conference action.
Engineers Record Solid NFC DebutDURHAM, N.H. – In its first Northeast Fencing Conference competition of the year, the MIT men’s fencing team posted a 3-2 ledger at the University of New Hampshire on Saturday. The Engineers defeated UMass Amherst (27-0), UNH (22-5), and Boston University (22-5) but fell to Brandeis University (14-13) and Sacred Heart (20-7). Both the epee and foil squads compiled ledgers of 31-14 while the sabre team finished at 29-16.
Men’s Fencing Opens Season at The Big OneNORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Sophomore Joseph Rafidi (Los Angeles, Calif.) and freshman David Wyrobnik (Frankfurt am Main, Germany) finished first and eighth, respectively in the epee division as the MIT men’s fencing team kicked off the 2011-12 campaign at The Big One Invitational hosted by Smith College on Saturday.
Dedication Held for Renovated Fencing Salle d’ArmesCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In conjunction with its annual alumni meet, the MIT fencing program dedicated its expanded and improved salle d’armes on Saturday, Oct. 22. The renovation was the first for this facility since the completion of the duPont Athletic Center in 1959.
