Men's Fencing Collects NFC All-Star Accolades

Sophomore Giulio Gueltrini and freshman Benjamin Lin

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – A pair of first-time honorees represented the MIT men's fencing team on the Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC) All-Star Team as announced by the league on Monday. Freshman Benjamin Lin (Beaverton, Ore.) secured a spot on the Sabre First Team while sophomore Giulio Gueltrini (Ravenna, Italy) was tabbed to the Epee Second Team.

Lin compiled a league-best 27-3 sabre ledger through two NFC competitions, including a 15-0 performance in last month's event. He is the program's first Sabre first-team all-star since Igor Kopylov '09 received back-to-back accolades in 2007 and 2008. Gueltrini compiled a record of 17-6, marking the 11th straight year the Engineers earned All-Star recognition in epee while becoming the 17th fencer to collect this award.

MIT starts its postseason push on Saturday, Feb. 22 at the New England Championship to be hosted by Mount Holyoke College.
