Men's Fencing Takes Two at MIT-Brandeis Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The MIT men's fencing team emerged with a 2-3 ledger in the MIT-Brandeis Invitational on Sunday. The Engineers (13-4) opened the day with a 21-6 loss to Pennsylvania State University. Following back-to-back wins against Yeshiva University (27-0) and Sacred Heart University (21-6), Tech fell to Haverford College (17-10) and New York University (19-8).

The epee squad posted the best record of the day with a total of 25-20 as all four members finished with winning records. Matt Gethers led the way with a mark of 8-6 while Michael Beregovsky and Trevor Chang both finished at 8-7. In addition, Lukas Schmitt won the only bout he participated in.

A 10-5 ledger by Spencer Sugimoto helped lead the foil team to a 24-21 total. The sabre team notched a pair of 9-0 wins en route to a mark of 23-22. Igor Kopylov and Brian Quattrochi both tallied totals of 8-7.
