Engineers Defeat UNC in MIT Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The men's fencing team finished with a 2-3 record after facing several national powerhouses at the MIT Invitational on Sunday. The Engineers defeated University of North Carolina (16-11) and Yeshiva University (25-2), but fell to Duke University (14-13), University of Pennsylvania (15-12), and New York University (16-11).

The foil squad was the deciding factor in the Engineers' win over UNC, posting a 7-2 mark, while the other weapons totaled a ledger of 9-9. The team of Spencer Sugimoto, Vincent Chen and Jason Chen swept their Yeshiva opponents, helping lift their combined record to 28-17 for the day.

The epee team defeated all five schools, finishing with a total record of 33-12. Trevor Chang led the way with a 13-2 mark while Michael Beregovsky went 10-5. Sam Korb finished with a ledger of 9-5 while Lukas Schmitt won the only bout he competed in.
