MIT Makes Annual Trip to Duke Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - In its final dual-match outing of the season, the MIT men's fencing team met with several competitive squads at the Duke University Invitational this past weekend. The Engineers defeated Cleveland State University (16-11), but fell to the host Blue Devils (15-12), Johns Hopkins University (14-13), Brandeis University (15-12), and the University of North Carolina (16-11).

The epee squad had the best showing for MIT (14-8), as it finished with a 25-20 ledger. The team posted four wins, including a 7-2 victory over Johns Hopkins. Trevor Chang led the way with an 11-4 record while Michael Beregovsky and Matt Gethers both finished at 7-8.

With a record of 10-5, Igor Kopylov helped the sabre team finish with a total of 20-25. Tech posted a pair of wins, with a mark of 6-3 against Cleveland State and 5-4 versus Duke.

The foil team notched records of 5-4 over Duke and Cleveland State, resulting in a mark of 19-26. Spencer Sugimoto anchored the Engineers effort with an 11-4 performance as Jason Chen posted a ledger of 6-9.
