Men's Fencing Has Strong Outing at The Big One

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The MIT men's fencing team traveled to Smith College to compete in The Big One this past weekend. Spencer Sugimoto posted the best finish for the Engineers as he claimed first place in foil.
In his collegiate debut, Ben Switala finished fifth in foil while Jason Chen was 11th. Sebastian Castro took 25th place and Jason Chan was 32nd out of 58 competitors. Rookie Matt Gethers led the epee corps by ranking sixth. Michael Beregovsky was 20th, followed by Jeremy Hurwitz (28th place), Peter Lamb (30th place), and Gabriel Chan (33rd place). In sabre action, Igor Kopylov and William Walsh finished second and third, respectively. Namit Setia took 12th place as Brian Quattrochi was 17th and Marti Bolivar was 25th.
