MIT Goes 4-0 at NFC Competition

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - In its first Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC) competition of the season, the MIT men's fencing team defeated Boston University (27-0), Tufts University (24-3), UMass-Amherst (15-12), and the University of New Hampshire (20-7). Trevor Chang recorded the best individual effort for the Engineers as he won all 12 of his epee bouts.

The sabre squad notched the best ledger of the day, sweeping BU and Tufts en route to a 31-5 finish. Igor Kopylov paced Tech with a 10-1 mark which was followed by Rangarajan Nadadur's total of 10-2. Namit Setia and Raymond Wu rounded out the squad with records of 6-1 and 5-1, respectively.

Chang's 12-0 mark helped lead the epee team to a 29-7 overall ledger. Gabriel Chan went 10-2 on the day while Matt Gethers finished at 4-2. Lukas Schmitt won three of his six pairings for MIT.

Spencer Sugimoto and Jason Chen had the best performances for the foil team. Sugimoto totaled a 9-2 record while Chen posted an 8-1 mark. Benjamin Switala (5-4), Sebastian Castro (2-2), and Michael Yee (2-1) rounded out the squad's 26-10 ledger.
