First-Quarter Explosion Carries Curry Past MIT

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College exploded for 28 first-quarter points then cruised to a 49-13 victory against visiting MIT to remain unbeaten in 2006. Sophomore Steve DiFabio started the Colonels (6-0, 3-0) power attack with a 33-yard touchdown run just one minute and six seconds into the game.
Sophomore Brain Taylor hauled in a 16-yard pass from sophomore Ryan Van De Giesen to extend the lead to 14-0 with 8:05 remaining in the opening frame. DiFabio, on his second touchdown of the night, scored on a five-yard rush, increasing the lead 21-0 over the Engineers (1-4, 0-3). Van De Giesen tacked on yet another first-quarter score on a one-yard keeper with one second remaining tp put MIT in a msassive early hole.
The second frame didn't see much action from either team until the 6:10 mark when senior Jarrad Jordan found the end zone from two yards out, building Curry's advantage to 35-0 at halftime.
MIT finally dented the scoreboard at 5:36 of the third period as sophomore Rick Mancuso connected with classmate Kevin Vogelsang on a nine-yard scoring play. Just over two minutes later, Colonels' rookie Jon Rodriguez pulled down a 48-yard pass from back-up signal-caller Clay Sisco, stretching Curry's lead to 42-6.
The Engineers closed out their scoring early in the fourth on a two-yard run by sophomore Robert Utz. Curry picked up its final score on a four-yard rush by Ryan McHugh with 36 seconds left on the clock.
Next Saturday, Curry travels to Endicott College for a showdown between undefeated NEFC Boyd Division teams. MIT returns home to face Western New England College.
