David Blau Named NEFC Defensive Player of the Week

Oct. 10, 2005

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Senior captain and starting defensive back David Blau has been selected as the NEFC Defensive Player of the Week after an incredible performance that ignited the Engineers to a, 31-27, come-from-behind victory over Western New England College.

MIT decided to attempt an on-side kick after pulling within 27-11 midway through the third quarter. The kick took a fortuitous bounce on the wet grass, while Blau sprinted up the near sideline and dove into the air to make a spectacular recovery. His effort set the Engineers up at the WNEC 48-yard line and led to another score that reduced the lead to 10 (27-17).

On the ensuing kickoff, Blau made another sensational play that forever changed the momentum of the game. As the Golden Bears' Jarod Johnson made his way up field after receiving the kick, defensive back David Kalk delivered a tough stick, sending the ball into the air. Blau snatched the loose ball out of the air and sprinted 30 yards for a touchdown.

Blau finished the game with three solo tackles, inlcuding one for loss. He also had a pass break-up.
