  • Men’s Lacrosse Receives Seven NEWMAC All-Conference Awards, Including Athlete and Rookie of the Year

    Senior Graham Davis (Crofton, Md.) was named the NEWMAC Men’s Lacrosse Athlete of the Year while freshman Luke Gianni (Henderson, Nev.) was voted the Rookie of the Year, marking the first time in program history MIT has received these major awards during the same season. In addition, Davis and Gianni along with seniors Mitch Turley (Westfield, Ind.) and David Klee (East Greenbush, N.Y.) earned spots on the All-Conference First Team. Senior Jack Kelly (Milford, Del.) rounded out the honors by representing the Engineers’ on the All-Sportsmanship Team.
  • Big Second Half Lifts Coast Guard Past MIT, 17-9, in NEWMAC Men’s Lacrosse Tournament Semifinal

    Top-seeded U.S. Coast Guard Academy outscored No. 4 seed MIT, 12-5, in the second half to pull away for a 17-9 victory in the semifinals of the NEWMAC Men’s Lacrosse Championship Tournament on Wednesday night. Senior Graham Davis (Crofton, Md.) powered the Engineers with three goals and two assists, helping him break the Institute record for goals in season as his total of 51 eclipsed the mark of 48 that was set by Jack Anderson in 1968.
  • Men’s Lacrosse Collects League-High 15 NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Accolades

    The MIT men’s lacrosse team once again led the way in NEWMAC Academic All-Conference selections as 15 student-athletes earned the award as announced by the league last week. The list is comprised of 35 student-athletes who earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale or 4.35 on a 5.0 scale after the 2017 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at his institution, and been a member of the team for the entire season.

(April 28) - The MIT men’s lacrosse team earned a spot as the fourth-seed in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament with a 16-9 NEWMAC win over Clark University on Saturday afternoon in Cambridge. Prior to the start of today’s game, the Engineers honored their six seniors Christian Jamison (Huntington, N.Y.), Jack Kelly (Milford, Del.), Graham Davis (Crofton, Md.), David Klee (East Greenbush, N.Y.), Mitch Turley (Westfield, Ind.) and Nick Martin (Mason, Ohio).

    In a back-and-forth game that featured eight ties and five lead changes, Babson College netted the game-winning goal with 36 seconds left to play, capturing a 12-11 win over MIT in NEWMAC men’s lacrosse action on Wednesday night. Senior Graham Davis (Crofton, Md.) paced the Engineers with a game-high five goals.

    Despite coming within two goals with 2:02 left to play and generating four shots down the stretch, the MIT men’s lacrosse team would not get any closer as Springfield College held on for a 12-10 NEWMAC victory on Saturday. Freshman Nicolas Gianni (Henderson, Nev.) paced the Engineers with six points on two goals and four assists.
  • Dominant Second Half Powers Engineers to 20-4 Win Over Emerson

    The MIT men’s lacrosse team rattled off 12 unanswered goals during the second half, helping it capture a 20-4 victory over NEWMAC foe Emerson College on Wednesday night. Freshman Gavin Vandenberg (Elmhurst, Ill.) paced the Engineers with five goals and one assist.

    A pair of runs helped nationally-ranked No. 20 RPI secure a 15-11 victory over MIT in non-conference men’s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon. Senior Mitch Turley (Westfield, Ind.) paced MIT with three goals and two assists while Zach Lukas and Cliff Kigar both recorded two goals and three assists for RPI.

Senior Graham Davis (Crofton, Md.) racked up four goals and three assists for the Engineers while Edward Powers paced the Buccaneers with one goal and two assists.

Riley McNulty powered the Bears, who received votes in the latest United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association coaches poll, with three goals and one assist.

    The MIT men's lacrosse team outscored Wheaton College, 4-1, in the first quarter and maintained a small cushion en route to a 10-7 victory in the NEWMAC opener for both teams on Saturday. Senior Mitch Turley (Westfield, Ind.) tallied two goals, one assist, and five groundballs for the Engineers.

    MIT rattled off six goals during a span of seven minutes in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 12-6 non-conference men's lacrosse win over UMass Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon. Senior Graham Davis (Crofton, Md.) tallied four goals and two assists for the Engineers, with all but two of his points coming during the late rally. Donovan Prozinski paced the Corsairs with two goals and seven groundballs.

    Four unanswered goals spanning the first and second quarters gave MIT a lead it would not relinquish as it went on to defeat Wentworth Institute of Technology, 12-9, in a non-conference men's lacrosse tilt on Thursday. Senior Graham Davis (Crofton, Md.) paced the Engineers with four goals and recorded his 200th career point, joining Harris Stolzenberg '17 as the only players in program history to accomplish this feat. Ben Coakley and Jacob Eldred both produced two goals and an assist for the Leopards.

Strachan finished with four goals and one assist while senior David Klee (East Greenbush, N.Y.) broke the record for career caused turnovers, eclipsing the mark of 72 set by John Kramer '16.

    Trailing 5-2 late in the first quarter, a record-breaking goal by MIT senior Graham Davis (Crofton, Md.) ignited a 14-0 run that resulted in an 18-8 victory over UMass Boston in a non-conference men's lacrosse game on Tuesday. Davis, who finished with three goals and two assists, eclipsed the mark of 140 career goals set by Matt Van Horne '02.

Nick Treon racked up a game-high eight points on five goals and three assists for the Mariners while senior Graham Davis (Crofton, Md.) posted three goals and an assist for the Engineers.

  • DAPER Announces Walter Alessi Men's Lacrosse Head Coach Endowed Fund

    The MIT Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation (DAPER) announced today the establishment of the Walter Alessi Men’s Lacrosse Head Coach Endowed Fund to honor Walter Alessi’s 43 seasons as MIT men’s lacrosse head coach and to provide a dedicated source of endowment funding to support men’s lacrosse at MIT. With this recognition, Alessi becomes the first coach in the history of MIT athletics to have the position he held over his career to be endowed and named in his honor. Nearly 200 men’s lacrosse alumni and friends contributed to the fundraising for the Alessi Endowed Fund, the successful completion of which was announced at the celebration of Alessi’s career on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Samberg Center on the MIT campus.
