CAMBRIDGE, MASS. - The MIT men's lacrosse team posted a 5-4 come-from-behind win over Pilgrim Lacrosse League foe Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Saturday. The Engineers' (4-2, 2-1 Pilgrim) Tyler Sorba led all scorers with four points. Joe Bushy and Sean Flanigan each tallied two points on a goal and an assist for the Buccaneers (4-3, 1-2 Pilgrim).
MMA recorded the first goal of the contest when Daniel O'Brien set up Bryan Sears with 1:09 left in the opening period. Tech notched the equalizer at the 9:01 mark of the second quarter with Sorba scoring a man-up goal on a feed from Scott Purchase. Nearly eight minutes later, the Buccaneers regained the lead after John Herman connected on a pass from Flanigan. Bushy extended MMA's advantage (3-1) on an unassisted tally with 46 seconds remaining in the first half.
The game was a scoreless affair until the 5:32 mark of the third period, when Sorba posted another man-up goal with an assist from Dylan Roden. Sorba then recorded back-to-back unassisted goals that gave the Engineers their first lead of the game (4-3).
The Buccaneers evened the contest when Flanigan converted a feed from Bushy after 3:20 had expired in the final frame. Three minutes later, Brennan Sherry set up Jonathan Stolmeier for the game-winning goal.
In net, Zach Brewer collected 15 saves for MIT while Dan Nelson made 10 stops for MMA. Ryan Ballentine and Dylan Roden both picked up eight groundballs for the Engineers as Rory Binder registered a team-high seven for the Buccaneers.
The next game for MIT will be on Wednesday, April 12 at 4:00 p.m. when it hosts Babson College.
