CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the second game in a row, Dylan Roden powered MIT’s attack, this time tallying four goals in an 11-3 victory over Clark University on Saturday. The Engineers, winners of five straight, saw their ledger improve to 7-5 overall and 4-1 in Pilgrim Lacrosse League play.
Corey Garvey posted three goals and five groundballs as Ernie Park and Ryan Ballentine each earned two assists. Patrick Shannon paced the defense with seven groundballs while Eric Zuk totaled six groundballs. Neil Zimmerman tallied five groundballs and a goal as Ebbe Strathairn registered four groundballs. In net, Garth Grove collected 13 saves.
In the opening quarter, Ballentine set up Garvey for a pair of goals as Roden recorded an unassisted marker. Clark got on the board with an extra-man goal at the 7:51 mark of the second stanza to narrow the gap to two (3-1). MIT responded with five unanswered goals to close out the period and enter the break with a comfortable 8-1 advantage.
Park found Roden for a man-up tally three minutes into the third quarter as a solo effort by Garvey extended the Engineers’ margin midway through the frame.
The Roden-Park collaboration netted another extra-man goal after 4:26 expired in the final frame. The Cougars capped the scoring with a pair of man-up strikes.
