Within 20 minutes of the start of the game, Babson was up 2-0. Keeper Jackson Klein made three saves during the first half, including a shot by freshman Sean Bingham (Garden City, N.J.), preventing the Engineers from making a goal. The Beavers remained two goals ahead until four minutes into the second period when senior Chris Hammond (Wilmington, Del.) hit a low corner kick from the left side, which was picked up by Monheit and hit into the near side of the net. Babson scored one goal in the 78th minute and then another in the 88th minute, giving the Beavers a 4-1 lead.
In the 89th minute, less than a minute after the last Babson goal, Monheit scored his second of the game after a cross from freshman Andrew Liotta (Menlo Park, Calif.). With just one minute remaining in the second period, however, MIT were unable to make up the difference, leaving Babson with the win, 4-2.
Sophomore Samuel Cannon (Scarsdale, N.Y.) finished the game with three saves, while Klein had six.
The Engineers will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 19 with a home game against Roger Williams College at 6:00 p.m. The Beavers will travel to Bowdoin earlier that same day.
