CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The 2012 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's soccer all-conference teams were released on Tuesday, revealing the names of four Engineers. Freshman Sean Bingham (Garden City, N.Y.) was voted as the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year and was joined by sophomore John Kramer (Glastonbury, Conn.) on the Second Team. Senior Ben Lewis (West Hartford, Conn.), the conference's Most Outstanding Player, and sophomore Nick Diamantoni (Belle Mead, N.J.) were named to the First Team. MIT also received the Sportsmanship Award following the close of conference competition over the weekend.
Bingham, who has scored a team-leading 15 goals during his first season at MIT, is currently tied for first in the conference in goals and is second in points (32). He is also third in the MIT record books for most goals in a season. Bingham is the only player on the team to have started all 19 games this season.
Having scored seven goals and tallied two assists to total 17 points, Kramer is second on the team in goals and third in points. He has played in all 19 games this season, starting all but one of them. This is the first time that he has been named to the all-conference team.
Lewis collected his fourth league award and third straight first team honor after totaling three goals and one assist for seven points. He was named as the NEWMAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player after his performance at the championship finals against Springfield over the weekend.
Diamantoni, who was recently named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team, has scored five goals and a team-leading nine assists to total 19 points. This is the first time that he has been named to the all-conference team.
