Sean Bingham Named NEWMAC Player of the Week
BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Sean Bingham (Garden City, N.Y.) was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week following an impressive week on the field, it was announced on Tuesday afternoon. He is the first of the MIT men's soccer players to receive the honor so far this season.
In MIT's 2-0 week, Bingham scored a total of three goals and notched one assist. In the Engineers' 4-1 win over Salve Regina University on Wednesday, he scored the first goal of the game just seven minutes into the first period. He also assisted MIT's third goal of the game that was scored late in the second half. In an exciting game against Wheaton College on Saturday, he scored both of MIT's goals to come from behind and lead Tech to a 2-1 victory over the Lyons. He currently leads the NEWMAC with his 12 goals on the season.
Following its win over Wheaton, the Engineers took over the top spot in the NEWMAC rankings and are currently the only team in the conference that remains undefeated in league action.
MIT will next face Tufts University at home on Wednesday, Oct. 16 for a non-conference game that will start at 5:00 p.m.
