BOSTON, Mass. – For the second week in a row and the third time in less than a month, sophomore Sean Bingham (Garden City, N.Y.) was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Offensive Player of the Week, tallying three goals and an assist in MIT's undefeated week. His efforts helped Tech clinch the regular season title and the right to host the upcoming NEWMAC Tournament for the first time since the 2003 season. He was also named the ECAC Player of the Week the following day.
In the Engineers' 3-1 win over Emmanuel College, he scored an insurance goal in the 84th minute when he fired point blank at the net. In its final game of the regular season against WPI, he scored the first goal of the game with five minutes remaining in the first half, scored another at the 67 minute mark and was the assist on the final goal to help lead MIT to a 4-0 victory. With his 21 goals on the season, he is first on the team, first in the NEWMAC, and fifth in the nation for Division III.
After remaining undefeated in conference play with their record of 6-0-1, the Engineers earned the right to host the 2013 NEWMAC Tournament as the #1 seed. They received a bye to the semifinals and will face the winner of the Springfield and Coast Guard matchup, with the game being played on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 10:30 a.m. The finals will be held at 12:00 p.m. the following day.
