CENTERVILLE, Mass. –Sophomore Sean Bingham (Garden City, N.Y.) was selected to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Men's Soccer All-Star First Team on Thursday evening. This news comes a few days after he was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-New England First Team. He is just the third MIT men's soccer player to ever earn this honor.
Four forwards, four midfielders, four defensemen and one goalkeeper among all Division III programs in the country were tabbed to the first team. Bingham was one of two sophomores to be selected and one of three New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) student-athletes to appear on the team.
Bingham wrapped up his sophomore season with 21 goals and three assists scored in 19 games to total 45 points, breaking the MIT record in both goals and points in a season. He was voted the NEWMAC Athlete of the Year after leading the conference in both categories all season, becoming just the second Engineer to receive this honor, and also earned a spot on the All-Conference first team. He ended up seventh in the nation in goals, being ranked as high as fifth.
Tech's two other players who were named ECAC All-Stars were Ben Lewis '13 last season and Zach Kabelac '12 in 2009.
