CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (June 30) – The MIT men's Soccer program has announced its slate of games for the 2017 season, which will feature an 18-match schedule that includes seven New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contests and eight home games. The Engineers will be under direction of third-year head coach Ken Bovell.
The Engineers will open the season at the North Shore Invitational with a pair of games over Labor Day weekend. MIT will travel to Endicott College in its opener on Friday, September 1 and follow it up with a match at Gordon College on Sunday, September 3. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. The team will return to Cambridge for their home opener on Saturday, September 9 against Framingham State University under the lights and will kick off NEWMAC play on Saturday, September 16 against Wheaton College at 1:00 p.m.
Other featured games for MIT, which finished 6-10-1 overall a year ago, include a matchup with national semifinalist and number-four ranked Brandeis University in Waltham on October 3 and then four days later the Engineers will take on defending NEWMAC champion Springfield College at home. MIT will also play five teams that made the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament last season, which include Babson College (September 30), Brandeis, Springfield, No. 15 UMass-Boston (October 18) and Worcester State University (October 25).
Returning to the squad in September will be two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American Ryan Stuntz (Wellesley, Mass.), two-time NEWMAC All-Conference selection Garrett Souza (Chino Hill, Calif.), junior Wesley Woo (Palo Alto, Calif.) and sophomore Isaac Perper (Tiburon, Calif.). Woo posted the second-most goals on the team last season, while Perper notched his first collegiate goal last season against Wentworth on September 21.
