Worcester, Mass. - Propelled by a goal and an assist by Jose-Ramon Torradas, the MIT men's soccer team defeated Worcester Polytechnic Institute, 2-1, Saturday at WPI's Alumni Field in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference contest.

With the win, MIT raises its record to 7-2-1 overall, and 3-1 in the NEWMAC, while WPI suffers another tough-luck loss and falls to 3-9-0 overall, and 0-5 in the NEWMAC.

The game's first goal was scored by Torradas just 10:08 into the game. Torradas was able to skip one by WPI Matthew Cichon from about 25 yards out. WPI tied matters with just 13:50 remaining in the game, when Andy Soumelidis converted a header on a nice cross from Matt Douville. But MIT's Torradas similarly put a nice cross in front of the goalmouth with just 8:09 left, and James Zorich beat Cichon, who had no chance for the winning effort.

Despite the score, WPI outshot MIT, 11-9, in this evenly-played game. Both squads totaled two corner kicks. MIT goalkeeper Morgan Mills had nine saves while Cichon had seven.

MIT will host Johnson & Wales University in a non-conference game on Wednesday, Oct. 20 at 3:30 p.m.
