CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Senior co-captain Ryan Sheffler was honored as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Week for his three goal performance in Saturday's 4-3 loss to Springfield College. It was the first such award for an MIT men's soccer player this season.
Sheffler's 2006 tally of seven goals and three assists for 17 points is good for fourth overall in the NEWMAC. He is currently tied for seventh all-time in career goals (20) and is eighth all-time in total points (56) for the Engineers.
The Beaumont, Texas native was honored in 2005 as an ESPN The Magazine First-Team Academic All-America selection, making him the first MIT player to ever be named First-Team. In addition, he was a 2005 NEWMAC First-Team All-Conference selection and is a two-time NEWMAC Academic All-Conference honoree.
