MIT Concludes Season With 2-1 Record At CSA Team Championship

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The MIT squash team compiled a 2-1 record over the weekend at the Collegiate Squash Association (CSA) Team Championship at Princeton University to conclude its 2008-09 campaign with a 12-11 ledger and the no. 35 national ranking. The Engineers knocked off Cal, 6-3, on Friday night before falling to Drexel, 6-3 on Saturday afternoon. Tech then edged USC, 6-3, to secure Third Place in the CSA Chaffee Division.

After losing matches at the first and second position against Cal, MIT rattled off six straight wins to advance to the Chaffee semifinals with a 6-3 decision. Saad Zaheer swept his opponent in the no. three slot, 9-0, 9-1, 9-3. Austin Anderson, George Pratt, Robert Habib, John Kucharcyzk and Ishaan Chugh also earned points for the Cardinal and Grey.

The Engineers followed up their opening round win with a hard-fought loss to eventual division champion Drexel, 6-3. Zaheer, Habib and Kucharczyk each collected their second win of the weekend, as four of Tech's losses were extended to at least four sets.

In its final match of the weekend, MIT and USC battled for third place in the Chaffee Division, as well as the No. 35 national ranking. Zaheer, Habib and Kucharczyk kept their perfect records on the weekend intact to help secure the victory for the Engineers.

Drexel knocked off Vanderbilt, 6-3, to win the Chaffee Cup and finish the season ranked no. 33 nationally.
