Cambridge, Mass. – MIT swimmers Anna Kokensparger and Wyatt Ubellacker have each been named swimmers of the week in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).
Both athletes were members of an MIT swimming and diving team that opened its competitive season with authoritative victories over Babson and Bowdoin in a tri-meet this past weekend.
Ubellacker, a sophomore from Georgetown, Kentucky, broke the Institute record in the 100 Fly (49.67), qualifying him for the NCAA "B" cut. Ubellacker also made the cut in the 50 Free (20.97), taking first in the event, and helped the 200 yard medley relay (1:35.62) and 400 yard freestyle relay teams claim victory (3:11.50).
Kokensparger, a sophomore from Omaha, Nebraska, Kokensparger won the 100 yard butterfly (58.58) the 200 yard butterfly (2:08.57) and the 200 yard IM (2:09.09). In doing so, Kokensparger made NCAA "B" cuts in the 200 IM and 200 Fly. She was also part of an Engineer team that won the 200 yard medley relay in this past weekend's victory over Babson and Bowdoin (1:49.89).
