INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - On the fifth and final day of competition at the 2013 USA Swimming Phillips 66 National Championships and World Championships Trials at IUIPUI on Saturday, MIT graduate Wyatt Ubellacker (Georgetown, Ky.) '13 swam the 50-meter freestyle. After going 22.94 in the morning, he made it back to the consolation final that night in 14th place.
Going into the meet, Ubellacker was seeded in 12th place with a 22.78, the time he swam at the U.S. Olympic Trials last year. At finals on Saturday night, to culminate his World Championship Trials, he touched the wall with a 22.95 to take 13th place.
Besides the 50 free, Ubellacker competed in the 50-meter butterfly and the 100-meter butterfly during his first trip to World Champ Trials. In the 50 fly on the first day, he swam a 25.15 at both prelims and finals to take eighth place in the championship and earn a spot on the podium alongside a handful of Olympians. The next day, he went a 54.76 in the 100 fly to come in 26th place, narrowly missing out on making it back to finals.
