SOMERS, Wis. - Sophomore Bo Mattix (La Canada, Calif.) was named the CollegeSwimming.com Counsilman Hunsaker Men's Division III Swimmer of the Week for his efforts in MIT's first dual meet of the season against Springfield College last weekend.
Mattix posted the top 100-yard backstroke time in Division III so far this season with his time of 51.36, touching in first place by over two and a half seconds. He came in second place in the 200-yard backstroke with a 1:55.51. He was also part of the winning 200-yard medley relay with its time of 1:34.04, leading off with a time of 23.69 in the 50-yard backstroke.
Following its 233-61 victory over the Pride, the MIT men's swimming and diving team found itself eighth on the 2013-14 Endless Pools/CollegeSwimming.com Division III Top 25, after being unranked the week before. NCAA defending champion Kenyon College sits in first, with Denison University in second and Johns Hopkins University in third. The MIT women's swimming and diving team also appears eighth on their top 25 list, with Denison taking the top spot and Kenyon following directly behind.
After taking the weekend off from competition, Tech will return to the pool on Sunday, Nov. 23 when it travels to Maine to face host Bowdoin College and Babson College at 1:00 p.m.
