BOSTON, Mass. – MIT men's swimming and diving collected two New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) weekly awards on Monday afternoon. The 400-yard medley relay picked up Relay of the Week, while senior Danil Tyulmankov (Stamford, Conn.) was named Diver of the Week for the first time in his career.
Having last raced over a month ago at the MIT Winter Invitational, the Engineers returned to the water to host the U.S. Coast Guard Academy on Saturday afternoon, wrapping up the day with a 203.5-74.5 victory over the Bears. The 400 medley relay, made up of sophomore Bo Mattix (La Canada, Calif.), senior Michael Liao (Newport Beach, Calif.), sophomore Sean Corcoran (Huntersville, N.C.) and junior Austin Fathman (Hamilton, Mich.), started the meet off with a win, touching four seconds ahead of the second place team with its time of 3:25.49.
On the other side of the bulkhead, Tyulmankov was faring well on the diving boards, coming in first place on both 1-meter and 3-meter. On the 1-meter board, he finished with a score of 250.20 and, on the 3-meter, ended up with a score of 304.58. He earned a zone-qualifying score on 3-meter. Tyulmankov was also named the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Diver of the Week.
MIT will be on the road for the next two meets. On Saturday, Jan. 18, the Engineers will travel to face Tufts University at 1:00 p.m. and, the following Saturday, Jan. 24, Tech will go to Williamstown, Mass. to take on Williams College at 4:00 p.m.
