BOSTON, Mass. – After a successful weekend in the pool, the No. 6 MIT men's swimming and diving team earned two New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) weekly awards on Monday afternoon. Junior Ben Bauchwitz (Hershey, Pa.) was selected as the Swimmer of the Week, while, on the diving boards, senior Danil Tyulmankov (Stamford, Conn.) was named Diver of the Week for the second time in the past month. Both were also honored by the Eastern College Athletic Association (ECAC) a few days later.
Tech traveled to Norton, Mass. for the non-scoring Wheaton Invitational on Saturday morning. Bauchwitz led the Engineers with four victories throughout the day. He went 51.72 in the 100-yard butterfly, won the 200-yard breaststroke by 11 seconds with a 2:08.11 and was the only swimmer to go under a minute in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 58.91. He also led off the winning 400-yard freestyle relay with its time of 3:11.80.
Tyulmankov wrapped up the day with wins on both boards. On the 1-meter board, he finished with a zone-qualifying score of 282.55 and, on 3-meter, ended up with a score of 270.60.
Next up for the Engineers will be the NEWMAC Championships, which will take place at WPI this year, starting on Thursday, Feb. 20, and running through Sunday, Feb. 23. MIT will be looking to capture its sixth consecutive conference title.
