CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (March 2) – The MIT men's swimming and diving team, ranked No. 4 in the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division III national poll, placed a league-high 12 student-athletes on the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Academic All-Conference Team, when the league announced its selections late last week. Between the men's and the women's teams at MIT, the Engineers totaled 26 honorees.

Earning Academic All-Conference honors were seniors Jeremy Ellison (Carmel, Ind.), Harry Lubowe (Laguna Hills, Calif.) and John Matthews (Yorktown, Va.), juniors Dane Erickson (Naples, Fla.), Dougie Kogut (Glen Burnie, Md.) and Joshua Tomazin (Austin, Texas) as well as sophomores Luke Eure (Davenport, Iowa), Elliot Forde (Everett, Wash.), Aaron Huang (San Jose, Calif.), Brandon McKenzie (Brigantine, N.J.) and Jeremy Sands (Skokie, Ill.) and Daniel Smith (Lake Forest, Ill.).

In addition, freshman Bouke Edskes (Rockville, Md.) was named to the newly established NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship team for the 2016-17 season. The award is intended to recognize one student-athlete from each team, in every sport, that best demonstrates the ideals of the NEWMAC and its Code of Conduct.

The No. 4 Engineers are gearing up for the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving National Championship, which will take place from March 15 through March 18 in Shenandoah, Texas. MIT will have 15 student-athletes competing next month including Matthews, Erickson, Kogut, Smith, McKenzie, Edskes and Tomazin along with eight others.
