CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Three MIT men’s tennis players have received Player of the Week honors from the New England Men’s and Women’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). Junior Ken Van Tilburg received recognition for his performance at No. 1 singles, while the pair of Kevin and Larry Pang were acknowledged for their efforts as a doubles team.
A native of Kapellen, Belgium, Ken Van Tilburg went undefeated in singles play as MIT began its spring campaign with wins over Emerson College and Colby-Sawyer College. On March 1, the Engineers won a 6-3 decision over No. 20 Bates College, assisted by Van Tilburg’s defeat of Bobcat senior Michael Reiss [6-0, 7-6(5)].
The team of Kevin Pang and Larry Pang contributed a 2-0 performance for the Engineers in their first three matches. The pair from Torrance, Calif., beat the team of Bellino/Jackman from Emerson [8-2] before defeating Rupasinghe/Reiss of Bates [9-1].
MIT’s 3-0 spring season has lifted the team to No. 26 in the latest ITA poll.
