CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Four members of the MIT men's tennis team were selected for All-Conference honors by the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference the league announced today. Sophomore Edwin Zhang (Falls Church, Va.) and junior Matthew Skalak (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) were selected for first team honors while sophomore Curtis Wu (Yorba Linda, Calif.) and junior Larry Pang (Torrance, Calif.) earned second team honors.
Zhang was selected for first team honors for his play in both singles and doubles. The first team All-NEWMAC No. 1 singles player, Zhang was a perfect 3-0 in NEWMAC matches and compiled an overall singles record of 10-4 during the regular season. He was the only MIT player to reach 10 singles victories this season. In doubles Zhang teamed with Skalak in earning first team honors in the No. 1 position. The duo proved to be nearly unbeatable, going 5-0 in conference play and posting a 13-5 overall record. Zhang now has four career all-conference awards, with Skalak picking up his second.
Pang and Wu teamed to earn second team All-NEWMAC honors at No. 2 doubles. The duo picked up a pair of key doubles wins last weekend that helped MIT to its 14th consecutive NEWMAC men's tennis title. It is the third career all-conference selection for both players.
