MIT Men's Tennis Continues Undefeated Streak with Win against Babson

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 20 nationally-ranked MIT men's tennis notched another conference victory when it defeated New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rival Babson College at home on Wednesday afternoon with a score of 8-1. This win increases the Engineers' run to 12 consecutive wins and zero losses. The Beavers fell to 5-6.

Babson's one win came at No. 1 doubles, where Connor DeFiore and Ramone Doyley defeated junior Edwin Zhang (Falls Church, Va.) and senior Matthew Skalak (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.), winning a tiebreaker 5-0 to claim a 9-8 victory. Freshman Kevin Wang (Havertown, Pa.) and sophomore Eugene Oh (Alparetta, Ga.) easily won against Victor Vu and Roberto Perez at No. 2 with a score of 8-1, and senior Larry Pang (Torrance, Calif.) and junior Curtis Wu (Yorba Linda, Calif.) defeated Saif Rahim and Mitchell Henry, 8-3, at No. 3.

In singles action, Zhang defeated Perez at No. 1 with a score of 7-5, 6-1. At No. 2, Pang won his first set against Vu, 6-2, but lost the second one, 5-7. He came back to win the third one, 6-4, to take the match. Wang won his match at No. 3 against Isaac Thylen, 6-3, 7-5, and, at No. 4, Oh defeated Doyley, 7-5. 6-3. Skalak won his first set against Henry at No. 5, 6-3, fell in the second, 3-6, and won the third 10-7 to take the win. Wu won both matches against DeFiore at No. 6 with a score of 6-2, 6-4 to end the day.

The undefeated Engineers will return to action on Saturday, April 6 when it hosts NEWMAC foe Clark University at 2:30 p.m.
