Engineers Beat Babson, Fall to Bowdoin

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The regionally-ranked No. 11 MIT men's tennis team topped Babson College, 8-1, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match on Saturday. The night before, the Engineers fell to Bowdoin College, 7-1, which moved their record to 9-5 on the year and 2-0 in conference play.

The top tandem of Alex Kamergorodsky and Brian Lafayette registered Babson's lone win as they edged out Eric Beren and Ken Van Tilburg, 8-6. Kevin Pang and David Iba defeated Ben Edick and Walt Sea, 8-4, while Peden Nichols and Jonathan Farm notched an 8-3 victory over Austin Conti and Steve Huang.

In the No. 1 singles position, Beren held off Kamergorodsky, 6-3, 7-6. Van Tilburg defeated Edick, 6-2, 6-1, as Pang dropped only one game in his 6-1, 6-0 match-up with Ken Lin. Nichols posted scores of 6-2, 6-2 in his victory over Lafayette in the No. 4 slot while Ryan Castonia secured a 7-5, 6-3 decision against Conti. In the No. 6 position, MIT's Michael Price lost the opening set, 7-6, to Edwin Lee. Price bounced back with scores of 6-1 and 10-2 to complete the singles sweep for the Engineers.
