Williams Tops MIT, 5-2

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Williams College, ranked No. 2 in the northeast, defeated No. 5 regionally-ranked MIT, 5-2, in non-conference men's tennis action on Monday. The loss ended the Engineers' six-match winning streak and brings their record to 9-2 on the year.

Evan Tindell and Thomas Dohlman posted Tech's lone doubles win, with an 8-5 decision in the top spot. Mark Egan and Eric Beren came back from a 7-2 deficit, tying the match at seven, but lost the next two games for a 9-7 final score. Melvin Makhni and Peden Nichols were defeated, 8-0, in the No. 3 position.

Tindell and Beren took their singles matches in straight sets with scores of 6-4, 6-4 and 6-3, 6-0. Dohlman lost a hard-fought battle in the No. 2 slot, 2-6, 7-5 (10-3), as Egan fell, 6-1, 6-1. Nichols was defeated, 6-0, 6-2, in the No. 5 position and Makhni lost, 6-2, 6-1, in the No. 6 slot.
