MIT Defeats No. 30 Tufts, 6-3

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT men’s tennis team capped off its regular season with a 6-3 victory over nationally-ranked No. 30 Tufts University on Wednesday. The decision lifted the Engineers’ ledger to 14-2 overall while the Jumbos dipped to 9-7 on the year. MIT will continue action as the No. 1 seed in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship Tournament this Saturday at Wheaton College.

Brian Wee and David Iba along with Peden Nichols and Samuel Harmatz registered 8-4 wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles slots. Kevin Pang and Ken Van Tilburg completed the sweep with an 8-5 decision against Kai Victoria and Jake Fountain.

Pang outlasted Jon Trott, 6-1, 6-7 (4), 10-4 in the No. 1 singles position as Fountain fought off Van Tilburg, 6-2, 7-5. Harmatz defeated Andrew Rosen, 6-1, 6-3, in the No. 3 slot while Wee topped Bryan Wilner, 7-5, 6-1. Nichols fell to Tony Carucci, 6-3, 7-5, as Ryan Castonia lost to Garrett Schuman, 7-5, 6-1, in the No. 6 spot.
