Men's Tennis Competes at ITA Championship

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Senior captain Eric Beren, joined by rookies Kevin Pang, Ken Van Tilburg, and Robert Wheeler, represented MIT at the ITA New England Championship held this past weekend at Williams College.

In the singles bracket, Pang cruised past Chris Pappe (U.S. Coast Guard Academy), 6-1, 6-2, but then fell to Jeremy Weinberger (Williams College), 6-0, 6-4. Van Tilburg defeated Brett Ramsay (Trinity College), 6-4, 6-0, which was followed by a tough 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 loss to Jamie Neely (Bowdoin College). Beren dropped his opening match to Robbie Norton (Salve Regina University) by scores of 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

Beren and Van Tilburg collaborated for a 9-8 win over Weinberger and Ari Binder (Williams) before losing a hard-fought battle to No. 3 seed and eventual champions Filip Marinkovic and Andrew Thomson (Middlebury College), 9-8 (7-5). Wheeler and Pang lost to NEWMAC foes Trevor Romanzi and Rahul Bala (Springfield College), 8-5, in their only match of the weekend.
