CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Seven members of the MIT men's track and field team will be making the trip to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse for the 2013 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Championships will commence this Thursday, May 23 and will run through Saturday, May 25.

The final U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll was released at the same time as the NCAA qualifying list, revealing that MIT has moved up six spots from last week to rest in 19th.

First up for the Engineers is the 4x100 relay that will compete on Thursday afternoon, soon after the start of the meet. The relay, that is composed of junior Michael DuPlessis (Wantagh, N.Y.), freshman Michael Kaba (Jackson, N.J.), senior Josh Duncavage (Austin, Texas) and junior Tyler Singer-Clark (Falmouth, Mass.), is seeded 13th.

To close the first day, the 4x400 relay, made up of freshman States Lee (Charlotte, N.C.), Kaba, freshman Derek Barnes (Coto De Caza, Calif.) and Singer-Clark, will take the stage. The young relay, with three freshmen and a junior, is seeded in third place, just four seconds shy of first-place seeded University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

In addition to the two relays, four Engineers will also be competing in individual events. Singer-Clark is seeded sixth in the 200m and Lee squeezed into the 400m in 20th place. Senior Patrick Marx (Grand Rapids, Minn.) is 19th in the 800m, while Kaba holds the highest seeding of all MIT athletes, sitting in fifth place in the 400m Hurdles.

The Championships will commence on Thursday, May 23 at 2:00 p.m. with the Heptathlon and the 4x100 relay will take off soon after 4:00 p.m. MIT will be looking to improve on its performance from the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships, where it tied for 68th place.
