Engineers Fare Well on Day Two of NCAA Championships
LA CROSSE, Wis. - On the second day of competition at the 2013 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the MIT men's track and field team were represented by just two athletes, freshman States Lee (Charlotte, N.C.) and senior Patrick Marx (Grand Rapids, Minn.). Lee competed in the 400m, while Marx ran the 800m.
To start the day, Lee ran a 48.34 to take 12th in the 400m. He was just four places and two one-hundredths of a second off making it back to finals. His time was a tenth off his own MIT freshman record.
In the 800m, Marx finished in fourth place with a time of 1:50.87, moving up 15 places from where he was seeded going into the meet. He dropped almost two seconds off the time that he ran at ECACs last weekend. Marx earned the chance to race in the finals of the 800m, which will take place tomorrow evening.
The Engineers will return to action tomorrow afternoon for the third and final day of competition.
