BOSTON, Mass. – MIT's men's track and field team was the unanimous selection by the coaches to repeat as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) champion, as was announced on Friday. Tech, who has won 14 consecutive conference titles, earned all six first-place selections.
WPI and Coast Guard Academy, who came in second and third place respectively at the 2013 NEWMAC Championship, finished in a tie for second in the voting, while Springfield College was fourth. Rounding out the voting was Babson College in fifth and Wheaton College in sixth.
At last year's conference championship, the Engineers finished in first place with 290 points, leaving a gap of 75 points between it and WPI. Throughout the day, six different MIT student-athletes had individual victories, the 4x100 relay claimed first, sophomore Michael Kaba (Jackson, N.J.) was tabbed as the Rookie of the Year and the team earned a total of 17 All-Conference nods.
MIT's outdoor season will begin on March 22, when the Cardinal and Gray travel to Westfield State College for the Jerry Gravel Classic.
