Men's Track and Field Places League-High 24 on NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team

Boston, Mass. (May 8) -- Twenty-four members of the MIT men's outdoor track and field team have been honored as members of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Academic All-Conference Team, as announced recently by the league. MIT's 24 selections are the most in the conference as 57 individuals were recognized overall.

Honorees must have met the following criteria: Earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale after the 2016 fall semester, achieved second-year academic status at his institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

This past weekend, the MIT men's track and field team won its fifth New England Division III Outdoor Championship in the last six years with a 27-point victory over No. 11 ranked Tufts. Overall, MIT had 21 All-New England individual performers and two relays, while also claiming three individual championships. The previous weekend, the Engineers captured their 17th straight NEWMAC Conference Championship with a 91-point win at home.
