Engineers Place 27 Student-Athletes on USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams

New Orleans, La. (August 20) -- Twenty-seven members of the MIT men's and women's track and field teams were recently honored on the All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The MIT men had nine student-athletes, while the women posted 18 members of the squad to rank No. 2 nationally in Division III. In addition, both the men's and women's teams earned All-Academic Team honors as each squad posted an overall GPA of a 3.60.

The Engineers achieved at a high level both on and off the track, earning academic recognition at the national, regional and conference level. Senior Arinze Okeke (Hawthorne, Calif.) was named as the CoSIDA Division III Men's Track and Field Academic All-American of the Year, while the squad had four student-athletes named as Academic All-Americans and five as Academic All-District honorees. Sophomore Aidan Gilson (Florence, Mass.) earned the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Elite 90 award, while the Engineers had a league-best 24 selections to the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team.
