CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Junior James Oleinik led a solid effort for MIT in its final tune-up before the NEWMAC Championships. Serving as host for its annual Spring Invitational, MIT battled 14 teams across Divisions II and III while netting 12 top-three finishes.

Oleinik was the only MIT athlete to secure two individual wins, taking first in the discus with a throw of 128'4" and first in the shot put with a heave of 49'2.5".

The Engineers also picked up wins from Omari Stephens and Anthony Teixeira. Tex ran 15.21 for a first-place effort in the 110-meter hurdles to out-duel Stephens, who finished third in the event after a split of 15.55. Stephens authored his own victory in the pole vault, clearing 15'3" to lead a 1-2-3 sweep as Greg Tao and Patrick Barragan finished second and third, respectively.

Jake Ruzevick paced a decent performance for Tech in the 1500m, finishing second with a time of 4:03.77. Paul Welle finished fourth in the event in 4:04.65 and Richard Prevost finished fifth in 4:05.27 as both competitors followed up on a strong effort in the steeplechase last week.

The Engineers produced several other notable efforts, including a second-place finish for rookie Mattias Flander in the triple jump (45'5.75") and third-place results from Rocco Repetski in the steeplechase and Gihan Amarasiriwardena in the 5000m.
