No. 14 MIT Sweeps Lesley in Season-Opener
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The nationally-ranked
No. 14 MIT men’s volleyball team kicked off its 2010 campaign
with a 30-10, 30-7, 30-21 victory over host Lesley University in a
North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) New England
Division match on Wednesday night.
Alex Becherer led the Engineers (1-0, 1-0 NECVA) with 16 kills on
20 errorless attempts for an .800hitting percentage to go along
with three digs and three aces in his intercollegiate debut. Also
donning the Cardinal and Gray for the first time, Matt Hohenberger
compiled six aces, including five in a row, to go along with nine
kills. Garrett Winther recorded 11 assists, seven kills, three
aces, and three digs as Mike Demyttenaere notched seven kills on 10
error-free attempts. Rookie Patrick Vatterott added six
kills while Eric Reuland collected a match-high six digs.
Caine Jette dished out 23 assists in MIT’s seventh straight
victory over the Lynx.
