CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT along with Stanford University were the only institutions to have both its men's and women's volleyball teams qualify for the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award. For the Engineers, this was the third year in a row they were the only Division III institution to accomplish this feat. In addition MIT was the sole representative from the NEWMAC to make the list on the women's side.
The college ranks produced 242 programs that met the requirements, including 88 among Division III women's teams. Joining MIT on the list from New England was Bowdoin College, Colby College, Connecticut College, Husson University, Middlebury College, Trinity College, Tufts University, Wesleyan University, and Williams College.
Initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, this award honors collegiate and high school teams that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 mark on a 5.0 scale. Click here to view the complete list of recipients.
